Instructions before Surgery
For your comfort and safety, please follow these instrucitons
Clothing & personal items.
• Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing on the da of your surgery.
• Wear no makeup or nail polish.
• You may wear glasses, contact lenses, dentures and hearing aids; bring your case(s) to store these items.
• Leave jewelry, valuables and large amounts of cash at home, but bring enough cash to fill your prescription(s).
• If your child is having surgery, bring a favorite toy or blanket.
• Please bring your crutches and immobilizer with you (if applicable).
• Bring your insurance card with you on the day of surgery.
Transportation.
• Have a relative or friend drive you to and from Sheridan Surgical Center on the day of your surgery.
• You will not be allowed to drive yourself home after having anesthesia or sedation.
• Have a responsible adult assist you for the first 24 hours after surgery.
Food.
• You may not have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before your surgery.
• No food, water, alcohol, gum, cough drops, breath mints, candy, coffee, orange juice or chewing tobacco.
• You may brush your teeth in the morning but do not swallow any water or toothpaste.
• If you choose to eat or drink, your surgery will be rescheduled.
• Special instructions will be given for infants and children.
Medications.
• Take them as you normally do on the morning of surgery with a small sip of water unless otherwise directed.
• Bring all asthma inhalers with you.
• Do not take aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen (Motrin™) within 7 days prior to surgery.
• Acetaminophen (Tylenol™) is OK to take before surgery.
• Special instructions will be given for those taking diabetic medications.
Bathing.
• A bath or shower should be taken the evening before or the morning or surgery.
• A bactericidal soap may be provided at the discretion of your surgeon.
